Roxy Coatesworth Skis to Junior World Bronze in Switzerland

The future of Canadian ski cross racing is looking bright as of Friday, with Canadians thriving at the FIS Ski Cross Junior World Championships in St. Moritz, SUI.

Roxy Coatesworth (Golden, BC) skied to the most significant result of her young career, earning a bronze medal at the famed Swiss resort, ensuring that the host country did not sweep the podium in the women’s ski cross event.

The 19-year-old finished behind Chiara Van Moos and Valentine Lagger in the final, while edging out Leena Thommen to claim third place and her first World Junior Championship medal. On the road to the final, she topped both her quarterfinal and semifinal heats, while teammate Kael Oberlander was eliminated in the quarterfinal.

“It feels great,” Coatesworth said of standing on the podium. “I’m really happy, and I’m proud to represent Canada at the World Juniors, and today was really good, and I’m happy with third place.

“Today’s racing was really cool, and we had some really fun heats and out of the gate, I was focused on doing my own race and working my way down and having a good run to move onto the next heat.”

A member of the Black Dogs Ski Club, Coatesworth has had a formative 2026 thus far, making her Europa Cup debut and going on to race nine times in the competition, highlighted by a win on Jan. 23 in Reiteralm, AUT, where she beat Friday’s World Junior champion, Van Moos, in the final.

Outside of that win, she has two Europa Cup podiums, twice finishing third in Les Contamines, FRA, in February, where she shared the podium with Canadian World Cup regular, Tiana Gairns.

With Friday’s racing settled, Coatesworth and the Canadian World Junior Ski Cross Team look ahead to Saturday’s team event, before returning to Europa Cup and other competitions.
