Get in TouchCalgary, AB. (March 21, 2026)—It was the ‘Schmidt show’ at today’s FIS Ski Cross World Cup race at Craigleith (CAN) with Hannah and Jared Schmidt (Ottawa, ON) both standing on the podium. This the third time that the Schmidt’s have stood on a World Cup podium on the same day, including in 2023 when they became the first siblings to each win a ski cross race on the same day.

Racing today in the only ski cross World Cup stop on home snow, just outside of Collingwood (ON) in front of an energetic Canadian crowd, it was both Hannah and Jared’s first podiums of the season, the 10th of Hannah’s career and the seventh of Jared’s.

“It’s pretty awesome to be back on the podium and to do it at home, with friends and family in the crowd, and on the same day as my brother, is absolutely insane,” said Hannah. “We could hear the crowd at the start, and it got me fired up at the start gate. The start is key to this race, you need to get out quick and defend at the bottom. I left the door open just a little on the last turn at the bottom and she got me for first place but that’s ski cross.”

“It’s been a long road to get back on the podium but I’ve enjoyed every single moment,” said Jared. “I’m always super honoured to represent Canada and to be on the podium here in front of family and friends is pretty cool. I want to thank everyone for making the trip out to watch Hannah and I, and the Canadian team race here at Craigleith.”
Men’s World Cup points leader Reece Howden (Chilliwack, BC) extended his lead atop the season standings finishing ninth today despite losing a ski in his quarterfinals heat. In a rare, and unfortunate coincidence, Kris Mahler (Canmore, AB) lost a ski in the same heat and in same turn as Howden, to finish 15th today, while Kaleb Barnum (Fernie, BC) placed 23rd and Carson Cook (Edmonton, AB) was 24th.
Other women in action today were Marielle Thompson (Whistler, BC) who placed 10th and Tiana Gairns (Prince George, BC) who placed 12th.
Day 2 of the 2026 FIS Ski Cross World Cup at Craigleith (CAN) goes tomorrow, Sunday March 22nd at 11:30am.
