What’s at stake: The Lake Louise Winterstart World Cup is Canada's highest-profile alpine ski race and the first World Cup speed event of the season. The fastest skiers in the world compete in downhill and super-G in the heart of the Canadian Rocky Mountains. For Canadian alpine athletes, it’s their only chance of the season to win a World Cup on home soil.
Quick fact: The Lake Louise World Cup was the first downhill course outside of Europe to be invited to join the prestigious Club 5. The Club 5 is a union of leading alpine ski race organizers and designates Lake Louise as one of the 15 classic downhill courses in the world. Other famous Club 5 courses include Gardena/Groden, Italy; Kitzbühel, Austria; Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany; Val d’Isere, France, and Wengen, Switzerland.
