The world's ski cross and snowmobile freestyle stars are coming together on December 8, 2012 when the Audi FIS Ski Cross World Cup and the Monster Energy Snowmobile Freestyle headline the Nakiska Snowdown. You’ll want to get there early to take in Snow Farmer (an open market to kick off winter), a free KidZone, a beer garden and an amateur invitational DJ contest.

Audi FIS Ski Cross World Cup

 2012 will mark the birth of the Nakiska Audi FIS Ski Cross World Cup stop. As the first race on the ski cross World Cup circuit, the event will set the stage for the upcoming season. One-hundred and ninety of the world’s best skiers, from 25 nations, will be vying for $30,000 in prize money awarded to the medallists.

With an ideal layout and easy accessibility, Nakiska Mountain Resort is a prime location to host this world-class event. A quick 45-minute drive from Calgary guarantees athletes a cheering section that will push them to compete at their best, plus the resort’s base area offers spectators easy access to all the Nakiska Snowdown festivities.

Monster Energy Snowmobile Freestyle

The best snowmobile freestylers in the world will come together for the first time at Nakiska in an event of epic proportions. Paul Thacker, Joe Parsons, Cory Davis and Brandon Cormier will rock it out after the Audi FIS Ski Cross World Cup. Event brought to you by Nakiska Mountain Resort.

Snow Farmer

A knock off of the weekend farmers’ market, vendors will sell, hock, trade and demo everything from the hottest skis to the best hot apple cider this side of the Rockies. If you’d like to be a vendor contact us right away as space is limited.

Kidzone

If you’re a kid for real or a kid at heart this zone is built for you. Bring your Sharpie and a helmet to collect autographs from all the athletes as they come off the track. Parents will find that climbing on snow castles, bouncing around the activates and sipping hot chocolate will not only tire out their youngsters, but it will also be the best day of their lives so far! The best part is kids 12 and under can ski free at the Nakiska Ski Area on Dec. 8, 2012. Parents can pick up a coupon for the offer at the Alpine Canada office before Dec. 7. You must have the coupon for kids 12 and under to ski free so be sure to stop by and grab one!

DJ Contest

If you think you have what it takes to get the crowd roaring and the athletes pumped then send us a demo as soon as you can - the deadline is October 31, 2012. The Canadian ski cross team will be the judges of which DJs get the high-rise scaffold at the finish to compete for a few bucks and bragging rights. Contact us for more information.

Launch Party with the Broken Toyz

 Join us Sunday, Dec. 2 at Morgan's Pub in Calgary to celebrate the kick off of the first ever Nakiska Snowdown! Come early to meet members of the Canadian ski cross team before they compete against the best in the world Dec. 8 in Nakiska.

Become a volunteer at the Nakiska Snowdown

For the first-time ever, the Audi FIS Ski Cross Work Cup is being held at Nakiska, Alta. We’re accepting enthusiastic, fun-loving and hard-working individuals to help make this the No. 1 must-see on-snow event of 2012! You will have the opportunity to get up close to the action and have a chance to meet our Canadian ski cross team!

Volunteer opportunities include:
Base-area installations – Dec. 3-5
Course crew – Dec. 3-8
Dye crew – Dec. 6-8
Slipping – Dec. 6-8
Gate keeping – Dec. 6-8
Start area – Dec. 6-8
Finish area – Dec. 6-8
Timing – Dec. 6-8
Equipment – Dec. 3-8
Tear-down crew – Dec. 8-9

As part of our thanks, volunteers who commit to three or more consecutive days receive:
